LIV Presenter Rachel Drummond Gets Dialled In!
From Tour Bag to Fitting Studio: How We Custom-Fitted Rachel Drummond at EP Golf Studios
In this fitting session, we welcomed former LET Tour player and current LIV Golf presenter Rachel Drummond to the studio for a full-on iron-fitting experience. The mission: find her next set of irons that deliver her best combination of distance, control and feel.
Why it matters
Even for a player of Rachel’s calibre, “off-the-shelf” irons rarely deliver optimal performance. Every golfer’s swing is unique: tempo, attack angle, strike point, timing, release pattern—all influence what “right” looks like for that player. At EP Golf Studios we believe a custom fitting isn’t a luxury; it’s a key step toward unlocking full potential.
The gear we tested
We ran Rachel through a range of top-tier iron heads and paired those with different shaft weights and flexes to dial in the best match. Here’s what we tried:
Heads: Ping i240 • Titleist T250 • Taylormade P790 • Mizuno Pro 245
Shafts: We tested weights from ~80g up to ~120g, and flexes from regular through stiff.
Other variables: head profile/loft, lie angle, club length and swing-weight all came into play.
What we focused on
During the session, we worked through the fitting process in stages:
Head profile & loft – We wanted a head that offered the right blend of launch height, spin rate and distance for Rachel’s swing. Too much launch/spin can reduce control; too little can cost distance.
Shaft weight & flex – The shaft effectively “tunes” the club to the golfer’s tempo and strike consistency. A lighter shaft (80g-ish) can help with speed and feel, but if the player releases late or needs better control, a heavier option (up toward 120g) might be better.
Lie angle – Ensures the club starts on the correct line. For a player like Rachel, strike location and path matter a lot.
Length & swing-weight – The “feel” of the club is hugely important. Even if numbers look good, if it doesn’t feel right it can cost confidence on every shot.
The surprising end-result
After testing the full range of heads, shafts and specs, Rachel ended up with a combination that might surprise some: the fitting pointed to a particular head/shaft mix that delivered the best blend of distance, control and consistency—not necessarily the “most hyped” model or the lightest shaft. That highlights one key message of a proper fitting: the “best” club is the one that matches you, not what looks best on a showroom rack.
Why this fitting matters for you
If you’re still relying on standard-length, standard-shaft-weight irons picked off the shelf, you’re likely leaving yardage, consistency and feel on the table.
Investing in a custom fitting (like the one Rachel did) means every spec is tuned to your swing: club head, shaft, length, lie, weight, launch/spin – all of it.
Whether you’re chasing more yards, more accuracy, better feel, or a combination – the right gear tuned to you makes a tangible difference.
At EP Golf Studios in Newbury, we’ve got the tools, knowledge and head-to-head testing to guide players through exactly this process.
