Why We Test Irons at Realistic Swing Speeds
Golf equipment can behave very differently depending on who is swinging it.
Testing irons at a realistic mid swing speed gives us a useful picture of how these new Srixon irons could perform for a large number of everyday golfers.
During the test we looked beyond total distance and considered the numbers that matter during an iron fitting, including:
Ball speed: How efficiently does each iron produce speed?
Launch: Is the golfer able to launch the ball in an appropriate window?
Spin: Is there enough spin to produce useful ball flight and stopping power?
Distance: How much distance does each model produce and, importantly, how consistently?
Feel: How does each head feel through impact?
Consistency: Are the numbers repeatable, or is one particularly good shot disguising the overall performance?
Is the Longest Srixon Iron Automatically the Best?
No -this is one of the biggest mistakes golfers can make when choosing new irons.
Extra distance can look impressive on a launch monitor, but iron fitting isn't simply a distance competition.
An iron needs to produce a useful combination of distance, launch, spin, descent and consistency. You also need sensible distance gaps throughout the set.
For one golfer, additional ball speed could be extremely useful. Another may benefit more from control, consistency or a different launch and spin profile.
That's why the same Srixon iron won't necessarily be right for everyone.
Which 2027 Srixon Iron Should You Choose?
The ZXi7, ZXi5 and ZXi5+ give golfers different options, but you shouldn't choose solely on handicap, appearance or which model is marketed towards a particular type of player.
How you actually deliver the golf club matters.
Two golfers with identical handicaps can produce completely different launch conditions and may therefore need different iron heads, shafts and specifications.

Do Srixon Need Three ZXi Iron Models?
That's one of the interesting questions raised by our test.
If three models sit relatively close together within an iron range, there needs to be a reason for each to exist.
But even relatively small differences can become important during a fitting.
A change in launch, spin, speed, forgiveness or head profile that appears small on paper could make one model noticeably better suited to a particular golfer.
That's why we prefer to test golf equipment head-to-head using launch monitor data, rather than deciding which is best based on specifications or marketing claims alone.

The important differences aren't simply how the three irons look. During testing, factors such as ball speed, launch, spin, distance, consistency and feel can help establish which head better suits a golfer's delivery. The best way to compare them is using the same golfer, ball and launch monitor conditions.
Should I choose Srixon irons based on my handicap?
Handicap can provide some context, but it shouldn't determine your iron choice. Two golfers with the same handicap can have very different swing speeds, strikes and launch conditions. Testing different heads and shafts provides much more useful information.
Should I choose the Srixon iron that goes furthest?
Not necessarily. Distance is only one part of iron performance. Launch, spin, carry consistency, dispersion and appropriate distance gaps are also important when choosing an iron.
